Dai Apolon Shadow World

DAI APOLON
A.K.A
SADOW WORLD

DaiApolon featured a strong American football motif which was demonstrated in the clothing of the pilots and the DaiApolon robot design itself. In an unusual twist not seen in super robot anime before or since and most likely inspired from Ultraman, the DaiApolon robot served as armor for its pilot Takeshi. When Takeshi entered DaiApolon, his body would grow to fit the robot, thus DaiApolon served as armor for the gigantic pilot. DaiApolon aired at a time when major changes were occuring at TBS and halfway through the series the channels changed and what remained of DaiApolon is sometimes known as DaiApolon 2.

Takeshi, Goro, Matsuo and Miki are four friends that live at an orphanage and have developed and interest in American football. On Takeshi's sixteenth birthday, a strange light appears in the sky and Takeshi and his friends are greeted by an alien named Rabi. Rabi explains that he is from the planet Apolon and that Takeshi is in fact the son of the king of the planet Apolon.
It is further explained that Takeshi's father was assassinated by the Dazan, an evil race of aliens bent on conquest that have in fact attacked Apolon. To defend themselves, the people of Apolon constructed two devices of great energy in the form of a heart and a key. The Dazan have taken the heart but it is found that Takeshi has the key and has had it all his life. Rabi gives to Takeshi and his friends three mighty robots that combine to form Dai Apolon and so Takeshi and his friends go out to meet the impending Dazan attack on Earth.
